It comes amid a two-tier sentencing row sparked by the jailing of Lucy Connolly

A GB News audience member has recounted how his police officer wife suffered serious injuries during an on-duty attack, resulting in a collapsed lung and permanent disability, whilst her attacker served only three months of a 10-month sentence.

Speaking on Patrick Christys Tonight, the man described how his wife was "thrown over" by an attacker, causing her lung to collapse and requiring resuscitation twice.

"This fella got 10 months in prison and I believe served only three times for attacking a police officer, which I find really strange," he said.

The incident has highlighted concerns about early prison releases versus lengthy sentences for social media posts.

Despite the serious nature of the attack and the lasting impact on his wife's health, he claimed the perpetrator was released early from his sentence.

"This fella is just allowed to come out and do what he wants," he added.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

The case contrasts sharply with recent lengthy sentences for social media posts. Former childminder Lucy Connolly received a 31-month prison sentence for posting "Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f****** hotels full of the b******* for all I care" following the Southport attacks.

The police officer sustained severe injuries requiring a tube to be inserted into her side to re-inflate her collapsed lung. She subsequently developed a blood clot on her lung and is now classified as disabled by a certain percentage.

"She had a tube stuck in her side to re-inflate her lung and ended up getting a blood clot on her lung, she's now classed as disabled by a certain percentage," her husband explained.

Connolly's appeal against her sentence was rejected by the Court of Appeal just 10 days ago, meaning she faces serving another eight months behind bars.

Her husband Raymond Connolly said: "Lucy has not been allowed out on tag and she has been denied leave to see our child who is struggling."

The Free Speech Union described her sentence as "plainly disproportionate."

The audience member questioned 'two-tier' sentencing in Britain

The debate over two-tier justice has intensified amid Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood's announcement of plans to release 1,400 inmates early in response to prison overcrowding.

Under the new policy, offenders serving one to four years who are recalled to prison for breaching their licences will only serve a maximum of 28 days behind bars.

Mahmood also announced plans to dramatically expand tagging so that 40,000 criminals can be electronically monitored at any one time.

The GB News audience member questioned: "I can't understand why Mr Starmer wants people to come out of prison and get on with everything when people with silly tweets are getting stupid sentences."
