A 31-year-old man has been arrested

Four people have been rushed to hospital in Leicester shortly after 12.30am today after being ploughed into by a car.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene in De Montfort Street, with three of the victims left with "serious" injuries following the collision.


A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the collision.

He remains in police custody, where he is being questioned by detectives.

The two men and two women injured remain in hospital.

A large cordon is in place in the area of De Montfort Street and will remain in place.

Leicestershire Police said that they have also received reports of a fight at the same location earlier in the night.

A car, which is believed to be the vehicle that hit the pedestrians, has been recovered by police after they found it nearby Margaret Street.

Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall said: "We understand the serious concern there will be about this incident.

"Four people currently remain in hospital and an investigation is ongoing as we continue to establish the full circumstances and the events leading up to this incident.

"A man remains in police custody and will be questioned by officers.

"A large cordon is in place in the area of De Montfort Street and will remain while enquiries, including forensic investigations, are carried out."
