The 46th US President’s absence comes as polling shows Donald Trump ahead in a number of key swing states

Joe Biden has spent at least 300 out of his 1,000 days in the White House either in Delaware or on holiday.

The American President also spent 89 days at the Commander-in-Chief’s Maryland retreat Camp David and another 74 days on overseas trips.

Biden, 80, is fuelling further concerns about his age among both Republicans and Democrats by taking a step away from Washington.

He is faring much worse than his Oval Office predecessors by conducting fewer solo press conferences than any modern President apart from Ronald Reagan and participating in only a fraction of the interviews held by Donald Trump.

Trump held 44 solo press conferences during his four years in the White House, compared to just 13 for Biden so far.

The 45th President also sat down for 190 interviews, while his successor conducted just 41.

Biden is currently poised to make a significant trip to Israel on Wednesday following Hamas' unprecedented attack launched on October 7.

The 80-year-old, who is in the midst of his 2024 re-election campaign, is seeing support diminish as Americans express growing concerns about his age.

A survey conducted in August revealed 77 per cent of Americans believe Biden is too old for re-election, including 69 per cent of Democrats.

Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips is now making moves to challenge Biden for the White House.

The move could prompt the most significant threat to an incumbent President since Pat Buchanan took on George H W Bush in 1992 or Ted Kennedy entered the race against Jimmy Carter in 1980.

However, Franklin Pierce was the only directly-elected President to ever lose a party primary race during a re-election campaign when his pro-Southern sentiments lost him the Democratic nomination in 1852.

In a further blow to Biden, recent swing state opinion polls suggest Trump is making up ground compared to the 2020 Presidential Election.

Trump, who is facing a number of legal challenges and was damaged by the January 6 insurrection, is leading in four out of six purple states.

Despite neck-and-neck national polling, the 45th President could join Grover Cleveland as just the second President to serve two non-consecutive terms in the White House.

The survey, which also includes former Democrat and now independent candidate Robert F Kennedy, puts Trump ahead in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan and North Carolina.

The race remains far too close to call in Biden’s state of birth, Pennsylvania.

The 46th President is level with Trump in Michigan and narrowly ahead of his predecessor in Pennsylvania when Kennedy is removed from the poll.

Biden flipped Trump’s 2016 lead in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan and Pennsylvania to win the last election.

However, Trump could return to the White House by the slimmest margin since George W Bush beat Al Gore by just 537 votes if Redfield & Wilton Strategies survey is emulated in 2024.

The property-tycoon-turned-politician, who lost the Peach State by just 11,779 ballots in 2020, will remain in the spotlight in Georgia after surrendering on charges of plotting to overturn its 2020 election results in August.
