Zelensky was visiting the port of Odesa along with PM Mitsotakis when the missile hit

A Russian drone missile struck near a convoy containing the Greek Prime Minister and President Zelensky.

Local media reports the strike landed just 150 metres from his motorcade, which was accompanying a Greek delegation that included the country’s prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Zelensky said that three people had been killed and injured in a Russian attack on Ukraine's Black Sea port of Odesa.

He was also quoted by the broadcaster Suspilne as saying that Ukraine needed stronger air defences.

Mitsotakis held a press conference with President Zelensky in his first visit to the country since Russia's invasion in February 2022.

The Greek PM said: "We heard the sound of sirens and explosions that took place near us. We did not have time to get to a shelter." My presence here reflects the respect of the entire free world for your people and underlines Greece's commitment to remain by your side."

A Greek government source added: "There is no issue with the safety of the prime minister and the Greek delegation."

President Zelensky said: "We saw this strike today...You see who we are dealing with, they do not care where they hit. I know there were casualties today, I don’t know all the details yet, but I know there are dead and wounded. We need to defend ourselves first and foremost. The best way to do that is with an air defence system."

Greece, a Nato member and a traditional ally to Ukraine's bid to join the military alliance and the European Union, has offered military help to the country.

Earlier today, Argentine President Javier Milei announced he will meet with President Zelensky in Kyiv during a European trip in June.

The attack was said to have happened at around 11.43am local time. According to local media, the strike was either an Iskander or Onyx missile.

President Zelensky and PM Mitsotakis held their discussions as planned, with their officials saying they would issue a joint statement.

It comes after a Ukrainian intelligence chief said half of the shells given to Russia by Kim Jong-un are "duds".

Deputy chief of Kyiv’s intelligence directorate Vadym Skibitsky told Ukraine media: "As of today, taking into account the available statistics, Russia has already imported 1.5 million rounds of ammunition from the DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea].

"However, these shells were made in the 70s and 80s. Half of them do not work and the rest need to be either repaired or checked before being used.

"[North Korea] gives away old stuff … ramps up the domestic production and asks for certain technologies in exchange, particularly missile and submarine technologies with the aim of developing its own defence industry.

"This proves once again that Russia lacks its own production capacity for a rapid and powerful increase in missile production. If it did not, why would it ask North Korea?"
