Rebekah Vardy has been forced into financial hardship after her high-profile court case with Coleen Rooney

Rebekah Vardy has placed her luxurious Portuguese villa on the market with an asking price of £9.7 million.

The property, which she and husband Jamie have called their "sanctuary", is situated in the exclusive Quinta do Lago golf resort in the Algarve.

The sprawling residence spans four levels across approximately 0.64 acres and overlooks the 18th green of the resort's North course.

Estate agents Knight Frank, who are handling the sale, have described it as a "magnificent property" that "showcases meticulous attention to lifestyle details".

The couple have previously rented out the villa for up to £30,000 per week but have now decided to sell the property outright.

The villa boasts an impressive array of luxury amenities spread across its four storeys.

Three swimming pools are positioned throughout the property, complementing six bedrooms and extensive entertainment facilities.

A private gym, steam room and sauna cater to wellness needs, whilst a dedicated cinema room provides entertainment options.

The property also features a roof terrace and a central electro-chromic glass lift that provides access to each floor.

Knight Frank's listing highlights that "the three external pools epitomise a contemporary lifestyle" and notes that "the impressively landscaped gardens complement the property's style, creating a true haven for modern living".

The estate agents emphasise the villa's convenient location, stating it is "within walking distance of the golf course and other renowned amenities within the Quinta do Lago resort".

The timing of the sale follows a significant financial setback for Vardy.

Last month, a judge ordered her to pay £1.2 million towards Coleen Rooney's legal costs, adding to her own legal bill reportedly exceeding £2 million from her unsuccessful 2022 libel claim.

The High Court case, which became known as the Wagatha Christie trial, left Vardy's reputation "in ruins" and similarly damaged her "brand" with potential advertisers.

The legal battle stemmed from Rooney's October 2019 social media post accusing Vardy's Instagram account of leaking fabricated stories to the press.

Despite Jamie Vardy's substantial earnings of £7.3 million at Leicester City last season, speculation has emerged linking the property sale to the financial impact of the court case and its aftermath.

A friend of the couple has dismissed suggestions of financial pressure behind the sale.

Speaking to the Mirror, they said: "They are selling the Portuguese pad - and are looking at different holiday places now. They had some great times there, but just decided it was time for a change."

The friend added: "It's actually laughable for anyone to think it has anything to do with the court case.

"Nothing could be further from the truth. And that's shown by the fact that they are looking for a new holiday pad."

The Vardys have owned the property for several years and experienced a scare in 2022 when forest fires threatened the villa, forcing neighbours to evacuate and leaving the family reliant on bottled water supplies.

The property's £9.7 million price tag has raised eyebrows in the local market.

An estate agent speaking anonymously to the Daily Mail described the valuation as "on the optimistic side", despite recent price surges of up to 16 per cent in the Algarve region.

"It's undoubtedly a stunning and very modern property, but there are many more traditionally-styled places in that area which some people might prefer, of similar size, but priced a lot more competitively," the agent observed.

Knight Frank's marketing materials emphasise the villa's contemporary design and premium location.

The estate agents note that the property benefits from its proximity to championship golf facilities and the resort's exclusive amenities, positioning it as an exceptional investment opportunity in one of Portugal's most prestigious developments.
