Clarkson's Farm fans have issued renewed pleas for the farmhand to return to Diddly Squat

Harriet Cowan has found herself on the receiving end of renewed calls for a comeback to Clarkson's Farm thanks to a rather worrying update from co-star Kaleb Cooper.

Cowan was initially hired by Jeremy Clarkson to work on his Oxfordshire farm, filling the void left by Cooper as he embarked on a nationwide stage tour.

Clarkson realised he was unable to keep things running smoothly at Diddly Squat while Cooper was absent, and as such, land agent Charlie Ireland brought Cowan into the fold.

Her introduction to Diddly Squat and Clarkson's Farm played out in the show's newly released fourth season, and it's safe to say the Derbyshire-based farmhand and nurse proved a hit with viewers.

However, once Cooper arrived back from tour, Cowan's expertise were no longer needed, and midway through the fourth season of Clarkson's Farm, she packed her bags and bid farewell to Chipping Norton.

Meanwhile, Cooper resumed his duties as farm manager, although his return to the show wasn't unanimously welcomed after he gave Cowan a frosty reception upon their first meeting.

Cooper even faced calls to be booted from the show by some fans for giving Cowan the cold shoulder, but she has since reassured fans that the two have formed a strong friendship since cameras stopped rolling.

As well as dealing with the fallout from season four, Cooper has now had to deal with an unfortunate health blow, revealing he was forced into a hospital trip earlier this week.

Cooper shared a snap on Instagram of his swollen ankle before a follow-up image revealed he’d been fitted with a medical boot. “Not good," he captioned the update.

Sharing further details of his injury bombshell, Cooper revealed to his social media followers that he had fractured his ankle, although he assured them he'd still carry out his upcoming work commitments.

“Hobbling around,” he told fans in another video. He went on to assure them he wouldn’t be missing his scheduled appearance at the Three Counties Show on Sunday. “I’m looking forward to this one. Even though I may be hobbling around, I’ll be there, don’t you worry," he said.

While Cooper may remain determined, news of his injury has reignited calls for Cowan to be made a permanent addition to the Diddly Squat family, given she'd be able to carry out any duties that the injury would render impossible.

On Reddit, Clarkson's Farm fans reacted to a news article about Cooper's injury with their pleas. "Looks like Harriet will be reinstated!" one fan hopefully typed.

A second echoed: "He should've kept her on all season so he could focus entirely on the pub."

Meanwhile, a third suggested: "They need Harriet sitting on standby in the backup tractor. Like the backup car on all the Top Gear trips."

Elsewhere, a fourth sent their best wishes to Cooper. "He got hurt playing football/soccer. I’m glad he’s not seriously injured. I thought he got hurt working on farming stuff. Hope he recovers soon," they typed.

Sadly, news of a comeback to Clarkson's Farm looks unlikely for Cowan as it stands. She told BBC Derby last month: "We've always left it very open. I'm here if he needs me, but no plans at the minute."

Cowan added: "If he needs me, I'm here. He's just another farmer for me. A flat peak cap and checked shirt, and all that. Genuinely, that man just wants to achieve something with his farm."

Clarkson offered a similar assessment of the future to The Sun, saying back in May: "It’s a reality show. We don’t just bring characters in because the TV show needs it.

"You bring them in because you really need them. I loved Harriet to bits and I wish her all the very best.

"She was fantastic to have around. But the truth is, we’ve got Kaleb, and he might go off and do Celebrity Love Island or something, and if I can’t manage, I’ll call Harriet in a heartbeat."

If Clarkson does decide to U-turn and take Cowan on full-time, it's safe to say her working relationship with Cooper wouldn't be as fraught as their first encounter suggested.

Revealing she and Cooper had made amends following his brash return to Diddly Squat, Cowan told BBC Derby: "Kaleb's amazing - me and him are so close now. He's such a good farmer and we got on really well.

"He's another farmer to add to my phone list to ring. Everyone checks in to make sure everyone's fine. The farm is two and a bit hours away, so it's crazy to be talking to Kaleb, Jeremy, Gerald, and Charlie and asking what the weather is like."
