Madeleine McCann: Polish woman who claimed to be missing Briton speaks out after receiving DNA results

She highlighted that she had an eye-defect similar to the girl who disappeared while on holiday in Portugal in 2007, and that her parents had made strange comments about her upbringing.

Despite the anguish of her mum, who publicly pleaded with her daughter to stop making the false claims about her past, Julia insisted on a DNA test.

Last week the 21-year-old received the results which proved she could not be the missing Briton.

Speaking out about the results, Julia made a new Instagram account called "Am I Julia Wendalt" - a different version of her surname.

In a bizarre turn, she claimed: "I have to say I never said I am Madeleine.

"I always said that I believe I could be Madeleine."

Claiming not to be "delusional or crazy", she added: "You can judge all of this things again and try to create another new opinion. I never wanted publicity."

The Polish woman also criticised the private investigator who helped her take the DNA test, alleging: "When I first met Fia for the first time I thought she wanted to help me.

"Now I know she wants only new followers, new clients."

Defending herself following the allegations, self-professed psychic Dr Fia Johansson said: "Julia was provided all the information about her DNA results to check for herself.

"Although Julia is disappointed about this revelation and the spotlight may fade away, the truth as represented in the results speaks to perhaps an unwelcomed new reality.

"I tried to help her find her true identity as she wished, and through this journey I was hoping to provide her comfort with her new reality.

"Despite her recent postings, I wish her a well and happy life."
