Egan overturned a Conservative majority of 11,220

Nigel Farage hit out at new Labour MP Damien Egan just minutes after his by-election success in Kingswood.

Egan joined Tom Harwood on GB News to discuss overturning a Conservative majority of 11,220 to take the seat in a crushing blow for Rishi Sunak.

Farage was less than impressed with Egan, saying he delivered the “dullest interview”.

“I have no doubt you’re blown away by the charisma of the new MP”, he quipped.

“That was the dullest interview. He has just won a bloody by-election, he should be celebrating.

“I fell asleep during it!”

He added that it speaks to politics in general “suffering” in recent decades, claiming the quality of candidates putting themselves forward for seats has lessened.

“People are going into it without real life experiences”, he said.

“It has got boring, dull, people have no personality and they’re scared of criticism on social media.

“I’m sure Egan is a lovely chap, but that wasn’t exactly inspiring.”

The new Labour MP told Harwood that the party won the election on “its own back” as opposed to factors such as Reform UK taking votes off the Conservatives.

“When we talked to people, we talked about the issues that were being raised”, he said.

“The top ones were the NHS, the cost of living and policing, certainly other issues too were coming up.

“I like to think that we won the election on our own back by working hard and getting the message out there to the voters of Kingswood.”

Egan used his victory speech to thank voters, saying: “Thank you for giving me your trust and for allowing me to serve the community I’m from.

“It’s a trust that I promise to repay, to show that politics can be different and can make a difference.”

He added: “Fourteen years of Conservative Government have sucked the hope out of our country.

"There’s a feeling that no matter how hard you work, you just can’t move forward, and with Rishi’s recession we are left once again paying more and getting less.”
