The 17-year-old won the competition on Thursday night

Given all the success Luke Littler has enjoyed throughout his short career, he'd perhaps be forgiven for thinking he's the best darts player in the world.

But the teenager doesn't believe that's the case, with the 17-year-old staying grounded in the wake of his sensational Premier League triumph.

Littler was majestic on Thursday, hitting a nine-darter amid the beat of the battle to beat Luke Humphries.

The plaudits have poured in for the youngster in the short time since, with many believing he's the man to beat.

Yet Littler doesn't believe he's the best in the world at present, with the Briton staying humble despite his remarkable achievement.

“Potentially down the line," he said.

“(Sky Sports pundit) Wayne Mardle asked me last week, ‘Am I the best?’.

“I just said no. Because I don’t think I am at the minute. Who is? I don’t know. Not me.”

Few had heard of Littler prior to the tail end of last year.

Ever since his remarkable run to the final of the World Darts Championship, however, he's become a household name.

Littler's form at that tournament saw him given a wildcard entry to the Premier League at the very last moment.

He has made the most of it, with the youngster beating top stars such as Humphries, Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith on his way to glory.

And Littler, speaking in the immediate aftermath of his win, had a message for those who had questioned his inclusion.

“One thing I just wanted to say, to all the doubters, ‘Hello!’. I’ve just picked up this, you’re not doubting me any more.”

He continued: “It was one of those weird feelings with people saying I wasn’t good enough.

“I had just got to the World Championship final, maybe I should be picked as I was.

“I accepted the invite and I have gone on to win it. Twelve months ago, I watched it at home on the TV.”

"It’s been a breath of fresh air for everyone involved in the sport.

"He will already be a millionaire thanks to his prize money as well as all the sponsorship deals he has been signing outside of darts which is just remarkable.

"He’s done all this just within six months, he has been the fastest millionaire darts player of all time and probably the fastest millionaire in all of sport, at the age of just 17."
