Zara Tindall was pictured kindly helping royal newcomer Harriet Sperling adjust her hat as they attened Royal Ascot on Tuesday.

Harriet, an NHS paediatric nurse specialist, is the girlfriend of Peter Phillips who first made her public debut alongside Princess Anne's son in May last year.

Upon arriving at the event, Peter and Harriet were greeted by his sister Zara Tindall and her husband Mike, along with their cousin Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Harriet wore an elegant cream tweed jacket and matching midi skirt by Suzannah London.

She completed her outfit with a straw boater hat by London-based milliner Awon Golding, taupe heels and clutch bag from Emmy London, and jewellery by Lugano.

Her hat became a feature of a sweet interaction with Zara as the pair chatted with their partners in the June sun.

In a tender moment, Zara appeared to help fix Harriet’s hat by placing a gentle hand on its brim as she beamed.

The gesture followed another meaningful move for Harriet as she joined Peter in the royal carriage procession to the event.

The couple were sat in the third carriage of the procession, a privilege previously extended to Peter’s former partners, including his ex-wife Autumn Phillips and Lindsay Wallace.

They shared their carriage with mystery novelist Anthony Horowitz and his wife Jill Green.

King Charles and Queen Camilla led the procession in the first carriage, accompanied by Saudi royal Prince Faisal bin Salman Al Saud and Lady Sarah Keswick, a lady-in-waiting and close friend to Camilla.

Princess Anne rode with the Duke and Duchess of Wellington and Camilla's younger sister, Annabel Elliot.

Henry Morton Jack and Lady Joanna Morton Jack occupied the fourth carriage alongside Lord Vestey and Lady Vestey, rounding out the formal procession.

Beatrice, Zara and Sophie were notably absent from the procession.

Not all was plain sailing during the procession as Princess Anne's was briefly forced to stop while enroute.

A well-placed local source told GB News the second carriage in the royal procession carrying the Princess Royal “broke down”.

They added: “The Royal Grooms sprang into action to fix the harness, and after a delay of a few minutes, the carriage was back in action on its way to Ascot.”

As a result of the malfunction, the carriage procession was delayed by about five minutes.

Over the past 18 months, Harriet has accompanied Peter to several high-profile events including Wimbledon and the Prince of Wales's charity polo match in Windsor.

In April, she and her daughter joined Peter at the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix, where he works as Head of Partner Acquisition, Motorsport at the Wasserman Group, a sports marketing and talent management company.

Peter, Princess Anne's only son and the late Queen Elizabeth's eldest grandson, has two daughters, Savannah and Isla, from his marriage to Autumn Kelly.
