Robin Hood was actually from Yorkshire, claims Sheffield teacher

A Primary School teacher from Sheffield has claimed to have discovered where the true birthplace of Robin Hood is.

Dan Eaton believes the infamous folk hero is actually from Yorkshire.

He says an ancient marker stone and carved cross found in the playground behind the school he works at shows the location of his birth.

Writing in his book ‘Reclaiming Robin Hood’ he also says “Hallamshire” is mentioned in medieval legend as Robin’s birthplace. It is an old name for Sheffield.

Locals are now calling for a statute to be made of Robin Hood in Sheffield, but Nottingham residents are not happy.

Merlita Bryan, the Current Sheriff of Nottingham said: “Robin Hood is as much from Sheffield as Jarvis Cocker is from Nottingham.

“Everyone knows his arch rival wasn’t the Sheriff of Sheffield.

“We get it - Yorkshire wants a piece of the legendary action.

“We’ve had similar claims from Kent, Wales and elsewhere before, but really everyone knows that he was from Nottingham.

“But we’re always happy for others to help spread the word about the world’s favourite outlaw.”
