The Briton is yet to win a race as the penultimate event of the Formula One season edges closer

Lewis Hamilton has opened up on behind-the-scenes arguments with Mercedes trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin.

The Briton is currently preparing for Sunday's F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix as he finally looks to win a race this season.

It's been a turbulent campaign for Mercedes so far, with the team toiling while rivals Red Bull dominate.

For the second year in a row they've struggled to get close to Christian Horner and his team, with Max Verstappen now the sport's best driver.

And Hamilton, speaking to Esporte na Band, has lifted the lid on arguments he often has with Shovlin behind the scenes.

“One of my engineers, Shov, will say ‘You’re not always right, right. You’ve just gotta accept that you’re not always right.’

"And that’s one of the things that I struggle with.

"I argue and argue and argue, but then I’ll say ‘Yep, okay. You were right.’”

When quizzed on whether Shovlin is the member of the Mercedes team he feels confident bickering with, the Stevenage-born racer added: “Yeah, that’s Shov.

"We’ve known each other for 11 years, we’ve had an amazing relationship, but we argue a lot.

"Me and him are the only ones that argue here [at Mercedes].”

Hamilton also proceeded to elaborate on his relationship with race engineer Peter Bonnington.

And the Briton made it clear that Bonnington wasn't a man he was willing to go to war with.

“I don’t argue with Bono, no. We have just a mega, mega relationship." he stated.

“And it’s not that he agrees with everything that I do, but we just have a great rapport.

"Me and Shov, it’s still a great like… fantastic relationship, but I’m always challenging him like ‘Yeah but Shov, what about this? What about that? Are you sure?’

"And then he comes back and I’m like ‘I’m sure you’re wrong’.

“So he took off a race, I think he was at home for the last race.

"And I was like ‘Where’s Shov? I don’t have anyone to argue with!

"So like we’re usually on the radio in the engineering and everyone is listening, and then me and Shov are going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.”

Hamilton is currently preparing for Sunday's Las Vegas Grand Prix.

It will be the first F1 event held in the city since the 1980s, only fuelling the excitement and hype around the race.

And Hamilton is predicting a 'wild' weekend of action, while also admitting he's unsure how things will unfold.

“I don’t understand how we’re going to move around that place," he stated.

“I don’t know how I’m going to get from the track to the hotel. It’s going to be such a compact spot, so many people, but I think it’s going to be a wild experience.

“I think the best thing is just to go with an open mind, not having any judgement, [any] predetermined ideas of what it’s going to be like and just take it all in when you get there.

“Driving in that light, I’m going to feel like I’m in the Casino movie.”
