Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll are preparing for a major change in their lives alongside their four-year-old daughter Poppy

Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll are about to experience some major challenges to their everyday lives that will have a profound impact on their daughter Poppy.

The McIlroys have had their ups and downs but they appear to be on the right path now as they prepare to move to the United Kingdom.

The family-of-three had resided in Jupiter in the south of Florida in a mansion they bought off legendary golfer Ernie Els in 2017.

It is the only home four-year-old daughter Poppy has known - but Rory and Erica are in the process of completing their long-awaited move to the UK.

After buying a plot in 2023 in an exclusive estate in Wentworth on the outskirts of London, they have had to wait until the mega-million property was built while the plan has always been to move in after the US Open, which concluded earlier this month.

McIlroy will retain his Florida mansion and use it as his base of operations when he is in the United States.

The 2025 Masters champion is often in action across the States on the PGA Tour, most recently at the Travelers Championship at the weekend where he finished tied-sixth.

However, moving house is not without its problems - especially across the world - with some issues posed for partner Erica and daughter Poppy.

Stoll has been keen to move to the UK, where the climate is cooler than Florida and many of her friends live.

Originally from New York, the sweltering temperatures of the southern states have reportedly been tough for the 37-year-old.

But finding a new school for daughter Poppy could prove challenging while the culture on British shores is hugely different to our American cousins.

Stoll has never lived in another country and, while she has visited the UK many times, the legal ramifications and tax changes might come as a shock.

For example, as a high-earner, McIlroy can expect to pay up to 45 per cent on his earnings whereas the US federal tax rates vary from 10 per cent to 37 per cent.

Florida is one of the most tax-friendly states in the United States and one of the main reasons why it appeals to superstar golfers as well as retirees.

It is just one of seven states in the country that does not collect personal income tax and also allows residents to benefit from tax-free pensions.

However, tax laws are more stringent in the UK and the McIlroys might be hit in the pocket as they prepare to make the move over the pond.

After winning the Masters in April, McIlroy and his family jetted back to the United Kingdom to visit his family to celebrate.

But during his brief visit, he also took a look at his new property, saying earlier this year: “Straight after Augusta we travelled over to see the house as it was going through the finishing touches.

“It was fun to see and we could have stayed in it, but we wanted to get over to Holywood [his home town in Belfast].”
