As preparations begin for the EU institutions' budgets in 2023, requests for funds from European Parliament have drawn concerns.
A report put together by the office of the secretary general of the Parliament is set to be examined by the Bureau of Presidents next week.
The EU Parliament has called for extra support in the form of a $103.5million increase in funding for next year.
The 4.9 percent jump from 2022 is argued for by the institution as it looks for "interactive Europa Experience facilities in all Member States by 2024".
The fact that 2023 is a pre-election year also justifies the hike in funding, according to EU Parliament.
The proposals have been met with a backlash from some EU countries according to Politico, with one European diplomat saying EU Parliament is determined to remain the "most expensive" in the world.
They said: "The European Parliament seems bent on maintaining their position as the most expensive parliament in the world, throwing money out the window while we’re in the middle of a global crisis that will hurt us for years to come".
