The King was unavailable to take on the prestigious duty as he was engaged in his annual Holyrood Week tour of Scotland.

The Kenyan leader had been in the UK as part of a new UK-Kenya Strategic Partnership, where he also met Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

London and Nairobi’s agreement concerned cooperation on fighting: “Immigration crime and human trafficking in Kenya to prevent onward migration to Europe.”

They also discussed the Nairobi Railway City project, which takes inspiration from London’s Kings Cross, and it could and will “enable opportunities for UK businesses” and “drive growth”.

William’s latest duty is part of an increasing focus on international duties and the global stage for the future King.

He travelled to Monaco in June to the Blue Economy and Finance Forum, hosted by the principality’s Prince Albert, to speak to world leaders about protecting the ocean.

William will also speak before assembled leaders and dignitaries at the Cop30 summit in Brazil in November.

The Prince will also play a key role in welcoming President Donald Trump to the UK later this year for his second State Visit.

William was the first British representative to meet Trump after his return to the White House last year as they attended the reopening of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

King Charles was unable to attend as he was in Scotland, winding down his annual tour with a visit to Campbeltown in the remote Kintyre peninsula.

The town, which once held the title of world whisky capital, hosted the King as he met locals and attended a Town Hall reception.

While there, a kilt wearing Charles was offered a taste of a 25-year-old Glen Scotia single malt whisky.

Charles was evidently pleased with the dram as his eyes lit up and he shared a grin with the others around him.

The reception brought together those leading Campbeltown's transformation, which saw it named Scotland's most improved place in 2021.

Charles was in Scotland with Queen Camilla, where the toured the country from their residence at the Palace of Holyrood House in Edinburgh.

The tour kicked off on Tuesday with a handing of the keys ceremony and a garden party in the grounds of Holyroodhouse.
