The Duchess shared a lighthearted moment with Cassandra Morales Thurswell

Meghan Markle has poked fun at her own trademark troubles during the latest episode of her podcast "Confessions of a Female Founder".

The Duchess shared a lighthearted moment with guest Cassandra Morales Thurswell, founder of haircare brand Kitsch, as they discussed the challenges of building a business.

When Thurswell mentioned her brand's logo evolution, Meghan quipped: "Yes, and also probably much easier to trademark!"

The comment prompted laughter from both women, with Thurswell enthusiastically agreeing: "So much easier to trademark!"

The joke appeared to reference Meghan's own recent experiences with trademark issues for her lifestyle brand.

During the podcast, Morales Thurswell explained how she named her company whilst making hair accessories in her apartment.

"When I was starting Kitsch, I was thinking, 'What am I doing?' I'm sitting on the floor in my apartment, I'm making these hair elastics, they're kind of silly and fun and cute, and I was like - it's kinda kitchy," she recalled.

The entrepreneur detailed her logo's evolution through seven iterations, noting she "finally" hired a professional designer.

She described how the brand transformed "kitschy items" into refined products, explaining: "That's why the logo is in this phonetic aesthetic."

Meghan's joke referenced her own trademark challenges with her lifestyle brand. Initially named "American Riviera Orchard," the brand faced rejection issues that led to a rebrand as "As Ever."

The original name was turned down because it represented a common geographical location and could potentially cause customer confusion.

The rebranded "As Ever" also encountered controversy when its logo was noted to bear similarities to the coat of arms of a Mallorcan village.

These trademark complications mirrored the design challenges that Morales Thurswell had described with her own early logo attempts being "swirly and crazy" and difficult to use on packaging.

Following their trademark discussion, Morales Thurswell elaborated on her logo challenges, saying: "Now [the logo] can be printed on packaging because my other ones were all swirly and crazy and it was just really hard, whatever."

Meghan responded supportively: "The complications of it, again, all of that stuff is you're figuring it out."

The Duchess emphasised the importance of sharing entrepreneurial struggles, particularly for those without formal business plans.

She noted how Morales Thurswell had taken a different approach to business development.

"I think it's just so important for people to hear that because you're bootstrapping it," Meghan said, contrasting this with entrepreneurs who create strategic roadmaps and target specific investors from the outset.
