The Briton is through to the quarter-finals of the competition

Cam Norrie got the last laugh over Nicolas Jarry on Sunday, with the Briton booking his place in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon with a valiant display.

Norrie was British tennis' last hope after Sonay Kartel's exit earlier in the day.

The tennis star had to be at his plucky best to beat Jarry in a close contest that saw three of the four sets require tie-breaks.

Yet Norrie was still able to get the job done, with the 29-year-old winning 6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 6-3 to book his place in the last eight.

During the showdown, tempers boiled over just before the third set of the match.

Norrie went for a toilet break, with Jarry choosing to stay in his courtside seat.

The 29-year-old then proceeded to moan about his opponent's second serve, with Jarry feeling that Norrie was bouncing the ball too many times.

"What is the rule there? The problem is, is it normal to do that when it affects the other player?" Jarry was heard saying to Greek umpire Eva Asderaki-Moore.

"You have to intervene there or I have to suck it. That's the real issue, it doesn't matter the reason. It is the same as hitting the ball anywhere.

"It's not intentional but you have to apply the code as well. How is it now? He perfectly can stop doing it, it's not a nervous tick.

"It's something that he can control. It's not a nervous tick.

"You think there's nothing I can do so I just have to suck it up, because he does it always.

"That's a reason for me to have to play with something that affects me. It can be changed, it's not something that cannot be changed."

However, Asderaki-Moore was blunt in his response.

"I am going to step in if I think there is a reason to step in," he insisted.

Jarry was having none of it, though, and continued his furious rant. The Chilean raged: "I don't want to force you into anything.

"I just want to do what the rules say. And if there is not a rule then tell me and I cannot do anything about it."

When Jarry won the third set, it looked as though there would potentially be a huge comeback on the cards.

Yet Norrie was outstanding under pressure, with the Briton able to maintain his composure in order to progress.

The 29-year-old will play in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the second time in his career.

Jarry, meanwhile, will have to go back to the drawing board.

Despite being outstanding, and putting up a strong fight, his hopes of winning Wimbledon are now over for another year.
