Amid a flurry of crime across the UK, Alex Phillips gives her take on lawless Britain

It’s all too easy to look across the pond at the escalating mayhem in America and feel rather glad that it’s not us. And rather aghast at just how bad it is.

Mass shootings and unfettered lootings in a fractured society, constantly at war with itself. Far from land of the free, it risks becoming the land of the free for all.

Yet what really is the difference between America and Britain?

Fewer firearms, and a few decades. Because the fissures and fault lines so ugly and visible in America risk being established here.

As we import young men from lawless countries and hardline rap culture from West Coast ghettos, shaken in a cocktail of increasing deprivation, you get a heady hit of outright depravity.

Testosterone fuelled teens unbound by our social values, purposeless, penniless and inspired by the grizzly motivations of drill lyrics, glorifying a hood hustle.

Armed with brutal weapons bought online and swept together by the centrifugal force of a balkanised neighbourhood, where street violence is as contagious as the common cold.

All of it left unchecked by an absent police force, carrying out a Terf witch hunt or wagging fingers in a Whitehall backed WokeWatch, while cars are nicked with impunity and kids carry blades while spitting about profiling and persecution.

Wind the clock forward ten more years, import a bit more defund the police with the veil of victimhood and ANTIFA anarchy, ship in even more disaffected young men from countries plagued by violence and crime and grant them zero purpose and unfettered access to horror blades online.

Motivate them with music while giving gongs to artists proposing to smack up your daughter, sell crack and **** the police - calling it progressive expression.

And all the while preoccupy, the police with a confected culture war.

Wind the clock forward ten more years, and today will seem like peacetime.
