Sir David Beckham and Sir Gareth Southgate were granted access to Wimbledon's prestigious Royal Box today, marking their first appearance at the venue since receiving their knighthoods.

The two former England internationals took their seats on Centre Court to watch the opening round clash between Italy's Fabio Fognini and Spain's Carlos Alcaraz.

Their attendance at the All England Club represents a new privilege afforded to them following their recent honours.

Beckham arrived at SW19 just 48 hours after watching his Inter Miami side suffer a 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup's round of 16.

Both men were honoured for their contributions to football in recent months.

Sir Gareth received his knighthood from the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle last Wednesday, describing the occasion as an "amazing honour" and admitting he was "more emotional than I thought I might be".

Sir David's knighthood was announced in the King's Birthday Honours list, fulfilling an ambition the former Manchester United midfielder had harboured for years.

The 115-cap former England captain has cultivated a close relationship with King Charles through their shared interest in gardening, with the monarch potentially hinting at the forthcoming honour during their encounter at the Chelsea Flower Show last month.

His honour recognises his remarkable tenure with the national team, during which he guided England to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and consecutive finals at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024.

The achievement represents the pinnacle of recognition for a manager who transformed England's fortunes on the international stage.

His emotional response to the ceremony at Windsor Castle reflected the significance of joining such a distinguished company in English football history.

Beckham's appointment as an ambassador for The King's Foundation last year has strengthened his royal connections.

During his visit to Highgrove, he expressed enthusiasm about supporting the charity's mission of "creating better communities where people, places and the planet can coexist in harmony".

"I'm excited to be working with The King's Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity's work," Beckham said at the time.

He added: "I've always been keen to help young people to expand their horizons and I'm particularly looking forward to supporting the Foundation's education programmes and its efforts to ensure young people have greater access to nature."
