Princess Beatrice attended Wimbledon's opening day today alongside her mother, Sarah Ferguson, marking the Duchess of York's first appearance at the tournament since 2001.

The 36-year-old princess and her mother watched the action from the Royal Box at SW19.

This represents a significant return for Fergie, who last attended the Championships 24 years ago.

During the 1980s and 1990s, she was a regular presence at Wimbledon, often appearing alongside the late Princess Diana.

The mother and daughter's attendance comes as the tournament prepares for what could be its hottest ever opening day.

They will be joined in the Royal Box by an array of notable figures, including David Beckham, actor Eddie Redmayne, and writer Richard Osman.

Singer Ronan Keating and Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs will also be among the distinguished guests on opening day.

Adding to the royal connections, Dara Huang has confirmed she will attend the tournament. Huang is the mother of Princess Beatrice's stepson.

The star-studded Royal Box attendance underscores the significance of the opening day, which traditionally draws celebrities and public figures to the prestigious tennis championships.

The tournament faces extreme weather conditions, with temperatures expected to reach 34°C in central and eastern England today. This could make it the hottest opening day in Wimbledon's history, surpassing the previous record of 29.3°C set on 25 June 2001.

The Met Office forecaster Matthew Lenhert warned that parts of south-east England could see temperatures climb to 35°C on Tuesday. The all-time Wimbledon temperature record stands at 35.7°C, recorded on July 1, 2015.

The extreme heat has prompted health warnings across southern England. An amber heat health alert remains in force until Tuesday evening, covering London and much of the south.

The heatwave affecting the tournament is part of a broader pattern of extreme temperatures across southern England.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued amber and yellow alerts covering multiple regions, warning of significant impacts on health and social care services.

London Fire Brigade assistant commissioner Thomas Goodall cautioned that the combination of high temperatures and recent low rainfall has created severe wildfire risks. "So far this year, firefighters have responded to around 14 wildfires in the capital," he said.

Whilst southern England swelters, northern areas face contrasting conditions with cloud and heavy rain expected in parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland.
