Dan Wootton: Boris Johnson must ditch all Plan B-S measures next week

I want to start by exposing Covid Project Fear using a specific example involving two of the worst offenders.

Just last month – less than six weeks ago – Sky News interviewed a member of Independent SAGE Professor Christina Pagel about the Omicron variant, which we already knew was milder, according to highly regarded South African medics and scientists.

But in an interview – unchallenged by Sky News – Pagel said "we have plenty of reason to think this could be the worst variant yet".

Sky News – looking to spread the fear even further – decided to tweet this disinformation to its 7.4 million followers, with the terrifying headline:

"The timing couldn't be worse.”

And they even added to that fear by calling her a member of SAGE rather than a member of INDEPENDENT SAGE – which by the way is not officially recognized.

Of course, we know by now that both Pagel, the left-wing activists of Independent SAGE, SAGE itself, Sky News, Wes Streeting, the Labour Party, Michael Gove and everyone else warning of dire consequences from Omicron were dead wrong.

In fact, it is providing us the path out of the pandemic.

But the reason I wanted to use this specific example is that it shows we should never listen to the fear factory again.

These folk simply regurgitated dire covid warnings for 23 months, dismissing positive data suggesting Omicron isn’t a deadly variant for the vast majority, and it is time they are called out for it publicly.

It’s also why Boris Johnson MUST ditch all Plan BS measures next week.

We now know they are futile at stopping the spread of the highly transmissible Omicron, they are economy and life-destroying, and they were never needed in the first place.

The time has come to ignore those who have got it wrong throughout this pandemic.

And that’s why I am very disturbed to read today that the usual morons are encouraging Boris to keep the country muzzled.

I have never felt stronger that mask mandates must go too, both in terms of law and guidance.

Obviously in classrooms first, because forcing our poor kids to cover their faces for eight hours a day to appease the rabid teaching unions, when adults don’t have to, is one of the biggest disgraces of the entire pandemic.

Not only do we know that masks are ineffective in stopping the spread of Omicron, they provide a visual trigger that we remain in crisis.

And it would spark another mass Tory backbench rebellion against Boris.

Red Wall Tory MP Lee Anderson warned in the Daily Telegraph today…

“I’m of the mind, as a Conservative, that people can make their own minds up if they want to wear a face mask.”

And Bob Blackman, who is executive secretary of the 1922 Committee, added…

“I don’t see any point in having rules that everyone is ignoring.”

We must accept the crisis is the past, as even cases now plummet, and block out the scaremongers who have lapped up the attention and been amplified by dishonourable actors like Sky News.

In fact, I would say the biggest crisis we face is from those determined to keep us living – totally unnecessarily – as if we are in the grip of a killer pandemic for another moment longer.
