What number plate changes are happening in the next two weeks?

New vehicle number plates are set to be released in March, with the new “22” plates appearing on any new car registered after that date.

Further changes will take place from September 1 where plates will carry a “72” tag.

These changes are likely to cause car prices to fluctuate in the coming weeks as some dealerships offer discounts to move old stock.

Other dealerships may offer cash incentives to help consumers with their purchase of a new car.

The standards required for new number plates have also been updated, with BS AU 145e replacing the now outdated BS AU 145d standard which has been in use in September 2001.

Changes have been designed to make it easier for Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras (ANPR) to correctly identify number plates.

This is to help dealerships get rid of old stock and could also give the buyer a bargain.
