The slimmer claims she started shedding fat rapidly after omitting sugar-laden beverages from her diet

The benefits of H2O for our health cannot be overstated, but drinking water is frequently overlooked as a viable solution to weight loss.

Researchers at John Hopkins University suggest it works by suppressing appetite, boosting metabolism and helping make exercise easier and more efficient.

The medical body states: “While countless factors, behaviour, and predispositions can affect your body weight, if your goal is long-term, moderate weight loss, making sure you’re hydrated could be a good place to begin.”

Amy Fritz claims that swapping out her usual sugar-sweetened beverage for a gallon of water a day proved transformational to her weight loss journey, which saw her shed 5.7 stone in under 10 months.

In a recent YouTube clip, she credited calorie tracking and accountability for her results, before moving on to the importance of water intake.

“I would say a [...] huge factor in my weight loss early on was setting a goal for myself a gallon of water a day," Amy declared.

“Half of your weight in ounces should be your water intake on any given day,” she said. “I started swapping any and all drinks that I was consuming. I was consuming a lot of calories and sugary things like sweet tea and soda.

"Swapping those out for water alone, I think I would have seen the scales start to drop. Really limiting liquid calorie consumption, other than the occasional coffee drink."

As a reminder to drink up, Amy left a mason jar by her fridge and trained herself to fill it every time she entered the kitchen.

“I just leave a mason jar right by my fridge and any time I go into the kitchen, I fill it up, eight ounces, chug it back and just get it in," she said.

“I found that that works really well for me, just finding simple ways to get more water in. If you like sparkling water, that’s another great way.

She added: “I cut out a tonne of processed food, I tried to limit fried food, I tried to eat a lot of whole food nutrition. I really focussed on the things I could have and the things I wanted to enjoy, versus restricting myself to any food group."

In a previous conversation with GB News, ASDA Online Doctor Kathryn Basford explained that dehydration is often mistaken for thirst.

She said: “Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water to keep you hydrated, as the body can mistake thirst as a sign of hunger or food cravings.

Aside from upping her water intake, Amy made an allowance for her morning coffee, which may also offer benefits for weight loss.

Naheed Ali, MD, PhD, physician and nutritionist writing on behalf of Sweat Block, recently told GB News about the benefits of drinking water and coffee for weight loss.

“That stubborn spare tyre that refuses to budge is a challenge familiar to many of us," he said. “Hydrating properly is key.
