The wrong choices could even end up ageing your visage, a stylist warned

Jewellery is one of the most unique and personal elements of everyone's wardrobe, but the subtle finishing touches to your look could be the most detrimental, and could even age you.

Style experts have revealed that strategic jewellery placement can create a more youthful appearance by lifting facial features. Colour analyst and stylist Jules Standish revealed that the way jewellery is worn can massively impact just how youthful you appear.

"Anything we wear close to the face, whether it be jewellery or clothing, will reflect up onto the complexion," Jules explained. When jewellery harmonises with one's natural colouring, it can help "the complexion to look more even, youthful and healthy".

Meanwhile, incorrect jewellery choices can have the opposite effect, drawing unwanted attention to facial lines and making skin appear dull or drained.

The key to achieving a more youthful appearance lies in selecting jewellery colours that complement one's underlying skin tone. Standish notes that wearing the wrong jewellery colour can highlight areas of concern on the face.

"If what you are wearing is not in harmony with your underlying colouring, this could appear 'out of sorts' and draw attention to lines on the face," she advised.

When jewellery colours align with natural skin tones, they create a harmonious effect that enhances the complexion.

This principle applies to all jewellery worn near the face, from necklaces to earrings, helping to maintain a fresh and vibrant appearance regardless of age.

LATEST STYLE TIPS AND TRICKS

Current jewellery trends have shown that consumers have started to embrace more colourful pieces, with gemstone searches increasing by 68 per cent over the past three months.

Going one step further, Jules recommends selecting stones based on seasonal colour analysis to achieve the most flattering effect.

Amber works best for autumn complexions, while bright green jade suits spring types, aquamarine for blue-eyed summer individuals, and ruby red for winter palettes.

Meanwhile, pearl jewellery is experiencing a revival, with Google searches up 20 per cent and Not On The High Street reporting a 17 per cent increase in pearl jewellery purchases.

Oyster or cream pearls suit warm complexions, while rose pink pearls complement cool skin tones. "Black pearls are for the dynamic Winter palette only," she added.

Further, "long necklaces can drag the face down", so the stylist advised layering different lengths or positioning pieces around the collarbone for an anti-ageing effect.

"Earrings being so close to the face make them an important consideration when looking to add radiance to your complexion," Jules added.

She cautions against oversized or excessively long earrings, which can create "a dragging down, ageing effect".

The stylist emphasised that earrings should complement facial features and bone structure whilst making the complexion glow.

As individuals age, Jules advised evolving your style choices while paying attention to the colour harmony, pointing out that underlying skin tones remain constant throughout life, requiring only adjustments in how jewellery is worn rather than complete colour changes.
