Andy Murray and his wife Kim have been married for 10 years

Andy Murray has revealed he is still attempting to compensate for cutting short his honeymoon a decade ago to focus on tennis training.

The retired champion admitted he spent merely a couple of nights with wife Kim during their 2015 Barcelona honeymoon.

Speaking to GQ, Murray confessed his training regime dominated the trip.

"When we got married, our honeymoon was in Barcelona, and I was doing a training block," he said.

"Essentially, we got to spend a couple of nights with each other, but I was practising during the day, training and going to the gym and doing all my physio work."

The three-time Grand Slam winner acknowledged the sacrifices his wife has made throughout his career.

"[A honeymoon] is very important for most couples. Maybe for her it was too, but she was willing to sacrifice that to allow me to chase my goals," Murray explained.

He emphasised Kim's crucial role in his success. "She's super important to everything I achieved, so now I'm trying my best to make up for all that," he said.

The Scottish tennis legend admitted he failed to fully appreciate his wife's contribution until after his retirement last year, recognising her as "a huge support and a massive, massive part of my career."

When questioned about potentially planning another Barcelona trip to make amends, Murray responded positively.

"That's actually a good point I should probably take her somewhere. I'll do that, maybe in a couple years, when the kids are a little bit older," he told GQ.

The couple, who wed at Dunblane Cathedral in April 2015, have four children together.

Their eldest daughter Sophia was born in 2016, followed by Edie in 2017.

The family expanded further with son Teddy arriving in 2019 and youngest daughter Lola in 2021.

Murray's suggestion of a future trip would need to accommodate their young family.

Murray reflected on his behaviour during his playing days, acknowledging he had been "selfish at times."

He explained: "You think a lot about yourself and your own performance, and your mood is reflective of whether you've had a good match.

"Say, I won. I'm in a good mood. I lost, I'm in a bad mood. It's not really fair on the people around you."

Despite his physical struggles and limited victories towards the end of his career, Kim remained steadfast in her support.

"Kim was always so supportive of me continuing to play because she knew I loved the sport and loved playing," Murray revealed.
