The Manchester United legend is now trailing his wife in terms of earnings after Coleen's success with her business

Coleen Rooney has overtaken her husband Wayne as the family's primary earner after her company CWR 2021 recorded profits of £1.3million.

The television personality and businesswoman's earnings have now surpassed those of the former England captain, who was reportedly earning approximately £500,000 annually in his role as Plymouth Argyle manager before departing the club in December.

The 39-year-old's business ventures have seen remarkable growth, with income from her endorsements and media career more than tripling within a year.

This financial shift marks a significant change for the couple, who have been married since 2008.

Recently published accounts for the year to September 2024 reveal that CWR 2021 already held £580,000 in reserves.

This represents a dramatic increase from the previous year's figures.

Wayne Rooney's earnings have diminished considerably since his playing days when he commanded £300,000 weekly at Manchester United's peak in 2014.

His managerial career has seen more modest returns, with his Plymouth position reportedly worth around £500,000 before his December exit.

The financial dynamics between the couple have shifted dramatically, with Coleen's business success now positioning her as the household's principal earner through her expanding portfolio of media and endorsement opportunities.

The couple's changing financial circumstances will be documented in a new Disney+ series titled "The Rooneys".

The streaming platform confirmed the programme yesterday, which will feature Coleen managing her business empire whilst Wayne handles domestic duties including taking their four sons to school.

This role reversal represents a stark contrast to their earlier years when Wayne was amongst football's highest earners.

The documentary will offer viewers insight into how the family has adapted to Coleen's emergence as the primary breadwinner.

The series follows Wayne's recent career challenges, having moved through management positions at Derby County, Birmingham City and most recently Plymouth Argyle.

A financial expert said: "These earnings show that, even before Coleen signed up for I'm A Celeb, she was already bringing in more money than Wayne."

The expert added: "On the back of her jungle stint, where she was incredibly popular with the viewing public, she's now likely to see her earnings soar even further."

Coleen finished as runner-up to McFly's Danny Jones in the autumn series of I'm A Celebrity. Her recent commercial ventures include an endorsement deal with health supplement brand Applied Nutrition.

The expert noted: "Getting big bucks from a global streamer, plus her pay cheque from ITV, will no doubt swell the Rooneys coffers even further."
