The wife of the Maggie May hitmaker has paid tribute to her other half

Loose Women star Penny Lancaster paid tribute to her husband Sir Rod Stewart on Wednesday evening, three days after he delivered a triumphant 90-minute performance in Glastonbury's coveted Legends slot on Sunday

The 80-year-old rock icon took to the Pyramid Stage for the festival's prestigious teatime slot, joining an illustrious list that includes James Brown, Diana Ross, and Dolly Parton.

Stewart's appearance came after he was forced to cancel several US shows in early June due to recovering from flu. The singer had also announced plans to scale back his touring schedule after 2025, opting for more intimate performances instead.

However, the veteran performer defied expectations with an energetic comeback that drew massive crowds and widespread praise from viewers watching at home.

Stewart opened his set to the sound of bagpipes playing Scotland The Brave, before launching into a hit-packed performance featuring Tonight I'm Yours, Some Guys Have All The Luck, and covers including Ike & Tina Turner's Proud Mary and Cat Stevens' The First Cut Is The Deepest.

The sweltering conditions at Worthy Farm forced Stewart to make two costume changes during his extended set, temporarily exiting the stage whilst his band performed covers, including Lady Marmalade

Stewart's setlist included classics Maggie May, Do Ya Think I'm Sexy, and Sailing, while there were several surprise guest appearances with Simply Red's Mick Hucknall, his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood, and Scottish singer Lulu, 76, all taking part in the set.

Lancaster and several of Stewart's children sang along with thousands in the crowd, posting updates from the day on their social media platforms. But now, Lancaster has addressed her husband directly.

Lancaster reposted an update from Stewart onto her Instagram stories in which he thanked the likes of Lulu, Hucknall and Wood for joining him on-stage for the Glastonbury set.

Still bursting with pride for her other half, Lancaster delivered a short but heartfelt verdict of the day, typing: "So proud of my man."

Lancaster and several of Stewart's children also shared updates from the Glastonbury crowd on the day, with clips showing the crowds singing along to the rocker's classic hits.

Stewart's sons, Alastair and Aiden, were spotted in the crowd, with the younger boy perched on his brother's shoulders to get a better view of their father's performance.

Stewart later shared a photograph of the beaming boys on Instagram, writing: "Two of my precious children at @glastofest giving their old dad support. Alastair and Aiden. Love ya boys!!"

There was also a poignant moment during the set. Stewart paid tribute to the late Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac, projecting her image on the big screen during his performance.

Fans flooded social media with praise for Stewart's performance, with many declaring it the festival's standout act. "You were incredible best act of the entire festival," one viewer posted, whilst another noted: "Bigger turnout for Rod than Neil Young last night."

Stewart's emotional response to his Glastonbury triumph was evident in his post-performance interview with Jo Whiley for BBC Radio 2.

"Yes, a little bit teary-eyed," he admitted. "It's just such an emotional event. Especially if you're British. This is our Woodstock and there's nothing bigger in the world and we do it the best."

When asked about the significance of performing at 80, Stewart declared: "Yes, they do because I won't be back. This is my Glastonbury moment. My World Cup final. I've got to sit down tomorrow and take it all in, how responsive the audience were. I could retire tomorrow - but I won't."

Stewart later posted on social media with a four-word message: "You lot were magic," alongside a video montage of his performance.
