Jos Verstappen has spoken out against a ‘stupid’ ruling by the FIA, which could stop his son, Max Verstappen from winning a fifth consecutive F1 world drivers title.
The comments have come following McLaren’s dominant win over Max and Red Bull at the Miami GP. The Papaya cars were able to pull over 30 seconds on the Dutchman, who was also beaten by George Russell in the Mercedes.
Red Bull have questioned the flexibility of the Mclaren’s front and rear wings since losing the dominant place in the sport to them.

Formula 1’s governing body has also pledged to implement stiffer tests on front-wing flexibility from the Spanish Grand Prix in June.
But with the lead the Woking based team already have, it's unclear how far they will be ahead by the time the calendar returns to Europe.

“We’ll see what happens,” Jos, who has driven in more than 100 Grand Prix in his career, told Racexpress.
“But then suddenly there is a rule change around the wings… Then I think, ‘do that at the beginning of the year, then it’s the same for everyone’. But why after so many races, and then it’s no longer allowed? Then [McLaren] have benefited from it until then. I think that’s so stupid, but that’s part of it, I think.”

The FIA have attempted to justify the timing of the new rules coming into effect when they announced them in January, stating:
"This phased approach allows teams to adapt without the need to discard existing components unnecessarily.
"These adjustments are aimed at further refining our ability to monitor and enforce bodywork flexibility regulations, ensuring a level playing field for all competitors to promote fair and exciting racing.”

After the Miami GP, Max admitted: ‘I said yesterday that I would try to do my very best and I think we did that today, but unfortunately [we] just didn’t have the pace.
"We were overheating a lot on the tyres, so it was just quite a bit of a struggle out there, and then, of course, we got a bit unlucky with the VSC as well, but that’s racing as well.”
