Tice believes his party has performed strongly

Richard Tice has lauded Reform UK’s performance at the Wellingborough and Kingswood by-elections ahead of the result announcements.

The GB News presenter and party leader said he expects Reform to deliver its “best ever” by-election result.

Reform’s positive performance in the polls have often come with question marks as to whether they would be able to translate it at the ballot box.

Tice is confident the party has delivered a resounding message, claiming voters have backed them in their swathes.

“From the early indications, we’re delighted”, Tice told Tom Harwood.

“We’re going to have our best ever by-election result by a considerable margin.

“We’re getting similar indications down in Kingswood which is a very different type of constituency.

“We’re a party on the up. There is a huge amount of dissatisfied Tory voters, that’s the message.

“We’re delighted that for the first time we’re going to equal or beat our national polling average.”

A double defeat could prove a crushing blow for Rishi Sunak as Tory MPs grow increasingly concerned about Sunak’s ability to lead them to victory at the next general election.

Defeat in either or both Wellingborough and Kingswood would mean the Tories have lost more by-elections in a parliament than any government since the 1966-70 Labour administration of Harold Wilson, which suffered 15 losses.

Tory MP Philip Davies told GB News that the party would need a “miracle” to emerge with a hold on either constituency.

Pat McFadden, Labour’s national campaign coordinator, said: “We are proud of the positive campaigns we have run in Kingswood and Wellingborough. We were always aware of the challenge ahead of us with the large Conservative majorities in both seats, which are both beyond our target list for a general election.

“Our campaigns have focused relentlessly on the cost of living and delivering for working people. We have highlighted that people in Kingswood and Wellingborough deserve better than a Tory government which has presided over 14 years of failure and left the economy in tatters with Rishi’s recession, and is unable to concentrate on what matters to people in both these areas and across the country.

“It will be some time before we know the results, but we are making real progress in all corners of our country and showing that with Labour, we can get Britain’s future back.”
