The presenter proceeded to bang the van's doors in fury

Jeremy Vine has shared a video online of a van almost crashing into him whilst he was cycling, with the vehicle then proceeding to try and reverse over him.

The broadcaster posted the footage online with the caption: “This morning. About an hour ago. Illegal right turn, then watch. Unbelievable.”

Vine, who is a keen cycler, was riding his bike down a road towards a junction when a white van cut him off.

A caption in the video states: “This driver is about to make an illegal right turn which will leave him heading the wrong way down a cycle lane.”

The vehicle turned right across Vine’s path, which forced him to stop and honk his bike’s horn

The white van then reversed into the avid cyclist, leading Vine to slam the doors repeatedly in anger.

The video sparked a massive debate in the comments, as people chimed in to state who they believed was in the wrong.

Some users were on Vine’s side, with one saying: “Christ. You’re lucky to be alive. Sorry to see this happened. Just awful.

Another added “Oh gosh Jeremy!!! I'm so sorry to see this. I hope you're OK. How's the bike?”

Others were on the van driver's side.

When Vine labelled the driver's actions as “embarrassing” in a follow-up tweet, a user lambasted the presenter.

They posted: “Yes, highly embarrassing for you. Taking a pedestrian crossing light for a junction light is why you caused the accident. I hope you learn the lesson.”

Another said: “Why would you stop right behind him knowing he would have to reverse to back out you could have avoided that.”

Others were critical of Vine cycling through a red light.

One user was sympathetic to Vine but said: “Awful situation but did you not also jump a red light?”

Vine was most recently embroiled in controversy just last week when he played an ill-advised song after announcing the headlines, in which he spoke about the crumbling schools fiasco.

He took to social media to apologise to listeners he may have offended following his show last Monday.

He played the song 'Halo' by Beyoncé, which features the lyrics: “Remember those walls I built? Well, baby, they're tumbling down.”
