A royal commentator has told Nigel Farage that “so much damage’ was done by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The pair stepped away from their roles as working royals in 2020 before moving to the US.

They then sat down with Ms Winfrey for a wide-ranging interview which aired in 2021.

During the interview, the couple made claims of racism against an unnamed member of the Royal Family.

As a result of the interview, the relationship between the couple and much of the Royal Family has been severely dented.

During a discussion about the challenges the Royal Family faces on GB News' Farage, Nigel said: “The Chinese lend money to Barbados”.

Before Richard Fitzwilliams continued: “And then Barbados becomes a republic without a referendum, that is the test because if you look at the pearl still, there is a danger here with the 18 to 24 age group after Oprah.

“Because so much damage was done by that one interview.”

When asked how much damage Harry has done to the monarchy, Mr Fitzwilliams said: "I think that he’s done a lot of damage in the US and I think he and Meghan here among the young at the moment.

" I think among the Scots and persons of colour and 18 to 24 year olds I would say there is a creeping republicanism.

"However, I would also say the monarchy has lasted over a thousand years, it's had its ups and downs.
