Slimmers can add one cheap food into their diet every day to help achieve weight loss results

A balanced diet is fundamental if trying to lose weight and eating foods high in protein has been shown to have many benefits.

Greek yoghurt could be one of the best high-protein foods to add into your diet, according to the expert.

Guna Bilande, who helps bariatric patients at Weight Loss Riga, shared why the cheap dairy product is one of the best foods to add to your diet.

She said: "Greek yoghurt is a nutritional powerhouse. Packed with protein, probiotics and essential nutrients, it possesses a unique combination of properties that make it a game-changer for weight management."

Protein has many benefits when it comes to weight loss. It has been shown to suppress the appetite, meaning slimmers will feel fuller and less likely to eat unhealthy snacks.

Greek yoghurt has around 10 grams of protein per 100 grams and it could be particularly beneficial for suppressing the appetite when paired with carbohydrates, according to a study referenced by Guna.

"The findings of this study are nothing short of remarkable," the expert continued.

"Greek yoghurt, when consumed alongside carbohydrates, has been shown to significantly reduce post-meal glycemia and curb appetite, thanks to its high protein content."

There are lots of different ways to serve Greek yoghurt. It can be eaten with fruit and nuts, served with granola, made into a dressing or stirred into curry. Guna suggested how much people should eat each day.

She said: "Start by incorporating a modest serving of Greek yoghurt, roughly 150 to 200 grams, into your daily meals.

"Experiment with different flavour combinations and recipes to keep things exciting and sustainable. Over time, the benefits will become apparent, as cravings diminish, and weight loss becomes more achievable.”

A nutritionist warned against snacks many people think are healthy that should actually be avoided. They offered alternatives to go for instead.

They explained: "Yogurt really can trick you. They seem like a convenient and healthy snack, but they very often contain added sugars and artificial flavours. Even if they state no added sugar, they often contain artificial sweeteners.

"Your best option is to choose a plain Greek yogurt which is also higher in protein. You can then sweeten it with fresh fruits or a drizzle of honey."
