Stubborn belly fat is difficult to shift but according to an expert, your diet can play a big part in combating it.
A naturopathic doctor (health practitioner who applies natural therapies) shared the three foods to "avoid" if you want to "lose belly fat fast". He encouraged slimmers to ditch high-sugar fruits, bread and rice.
Dr Pedi Mirdamada (@drpedinaturalhealth ON TikTok) encouraged people who want to lose weight to stop eating high-sugar fruits.
According to the expert, watermelons, bananas and grapes are no-go's because these are high in sugar.
The naturopathic doctor advised against bananas if you want to banish belly fat
GETTY IMAGESDr Pedi explained: "These fruits can cause a rise in blood sugar, which causes the body to release insulin and insulin is a fertiliser for fat cells to grow. Be sure to stick to lower-sugar fruits like berries."
The experts at ZOE weighed in on bananas and whether or not they are weight loss friendly.
They said: "For weight loss, our science suggests that bananas are not a good option because of the high sugar content in the fruit and how your body responds to it.
"When you eat a banana, all the carbohydrates it contains are broken down into simple sugars, which cause a rise in your blood sugar levels.
"How quickly we see this rise is known as the glycemic index (GI). The GI system rates foods from 0 to 100, with 0 causing the slowest blood sugar rise and 100 causing the fastest.
"A ripe banana has a GI of 51, table sugar has a GI of 65, and pure glucose has a GI of 100. This tells us that glucose will cause the sharpest spike in blood sugar, followed by table sugar, and then a banana.
"By comparison, a single chocolate bar has a similar GI ranking of 49. This gives you an idea of how much a banana can cause your blood sugar to rise when you eat it."
According to Medical News Today, those looking to reduce their sugar intake should stock up on lemons, limes, avocados, blackberries, strawberries, oranges, honeydew melon peaches and grapefruit. Of course, there are many nutritional benefits of eating these fruits, and they are a better option than processed treats, so it is worth checking with a doctor about the right method for you.
One expert believes that there is a "number one" fruit when it comes to busting body fat.
Next, the naturopathic doctor advised slimmers to banish bread, as this is a "highly processed carbohydrate that causes a rise in blood sugar".
He added that bread contains gluten, which can cause inflammation in the body and therefore lead to weight gain.
Finally, Dr Pedi recommended a diet devoid of rice. He explained that rice is also high in carbs, which means it also causes a rise in blood sugar.

Slimmers are advised to reduce their carb intake, and then try to ensure that their remaining carbs are the 'good' ones. The distinction between 'good' carbs and 'bad' carbs is important.
Experts at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health said: "Good carbs, like whole grains, brown rice and legumes, don’t raise blood glucose quickly. Bad carbs, like white bread, cookies and sugary fizzy drinks, cause blood glucose to rise quickly."
Professor of nutrition and epidemiology, Frank Hu, advised slimmers: "Reduce refined carbs in the diet and replace them with lean protein, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes and fats from vegetable sources.
"Reduce the overall amount of carbs from 55 per cent of calories to below 40 per cent and make as many of those good carbs as you can."
Another way slimmers can torch belly fat for good is through movement. An expert named the "number one" exercise you can incorporate into your daily life - it's "powerfully effective".
