The role of the Bond girl has evolved significantly over the years, aiming to offer more complex, capable female characters

As fans eagerly await news of who will take on the role of action icon James Bond, a new frontrunner has emerged for another key part in the franchise.

The odds have dramatically shortened for one White Lotus star to become the next Bond girl.

Aimee Lou Wood, the breakout star of The White Lotus, has seen her chances of landing the role surge in recent weeks.

Once considered an outsider with 25/1 odds just last month, the actress- whose star continues to rise thanks to her acclaimed turn in the hit HBO show- is now among the top contenders for a leading role in Amazon’s James Bond reboot, with her odds slashed to 8/1.

According to Gambling Industry News, Aimee Lou Wood is joined by Euphoria and fellow White Lotus star Sydney Sweeney, who currently leads the race with 3/1 odds.

Close behind is Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka in second place at 7/2.

The two actresses have been trading the top spot for a while, but now Wood is quickly catching up.

Meanwhile, Wednesday star Jenna Ortega holds 5/1 odds, followed by pop sensation Dua Lipa at 6/1, and British actress Jodie Comer, of Killing Eve, at 8/1- rounding out the joint top five contenders.

Also still in the running are The Substance star Margaret Qualley, who notably performed a 007 tribute at this year’s Oscars, with 9/1 odds, and Fool Me Once actress Michelle Keegan at 11/1.

The role of the Bond girl has evolved significantly over the years.

In the most recent Daniel Craig era, the franchise aimed to move away from portraying Bond girls solely as femme fatales or victims of 007’s charm and dangerous world, instead offering more complex, capable female characters.

Craig’s final outing, No Time to Die, featured three Bond girls: Léa Seydoux reprised her role as Dr. Madeleine Swann; Lashana Lynch debuted as Nomi, an agent who had inherited the 007 title; and Ana de Armas made a memorable appearance as the spirited CIA operative Paloma.

With Amazon now overseeing the creative direction of the James Bond franchise, speculation is growing.

Current rumors suggest the studio is looking to cast a much younger actor as the next 007, signaling a fresh new take on the iconic role.

Jose Del Pozo, from Gambling Industry News, said: “The race to land the coveted role of Bond girl in the next 007 film has been an exciting one to date, but there’s a new name among the frontrunners – Aimee Lou Wood.

“Fresh off her successful appearance in the latest series of The White Lotus, the British actress has seen her odds to star in the next Bond film shorten from 25/1 to 8/1 in just a few weeks.

“At the top of the betting, it continues to be a closely fought battle between Sydney Sweeney (3/1) and Kiernan Shipka (7/2), with Sweeney now currently holding a slender advantage over her rival – but we’re expecting plenty more twists and turns over the coming months.”
