Prince William will "fight tooth and nail" amid Princess Kate's recovery, royal sources have claimed.

The Princess of Wales is thought to be undertaking a fundamental reassessment of her royal duties as she continues her recovery from cancer treatment.

"Kate is recalibrating her entire life, her entire work-life balance," a former royal staffer told The Daily Beast.

The Princess's need for extended recovery became starkly apparent on Wednesday when she withdrew from the prestigious Royal Ascot carriage procession with less than two hours' notice.

Her team cited the need to find "balance" as she continues recovering from cancer.

Sources close to the couple have claimed that Kate, 43, will reduce her forthcoming public engagements.

Multiple sources told the publication they anticipate the Princess will substantially increase her online presence whilst supporting her chosen causes remotely.

This was demonstrated on Friday when Kate issued a written statement to commemorate Children's Hospice Week, drawing on her experience as the Royal Patron of two leading hospices.

A royal insider told the outlet: "The important thing here is Kate's recovery.

"It was too much, unfortunately, for her to have three appearances in under a week, and the lesson has been learned."

Prince William is expected to ensure his wife receives the time she needs to recover, according to the former staffer.

They explained: "If she needs more time to recover, William will fight tooth and nail to see she is given it.”

The shift comes after what the Prince of Wales described as "probably been the hardest year in my life."

Prince William marked his 43rd birthday on Saturday by releasing a photograph showing him playing with the family's new puppies, whilst avoiding any public appearances.

The photograph was taken by Princess Kate, an avid photographer, who joined Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis in wishing her husband a happy birthday.
