Roku devices are now used by 100 million households worldwide.
This monumental milestone puts the platform ahead of the likes of Fire TV, which confirmed that it had exceeded 50 million monthly active users worldwide at the beginning of this year. Amazon says its users are streaming billions of hours of content every month. It still lags behind Google TV and Android TV, which operate on over 270 million devices worldwide each month.
The US-based streaming firm offers hundreds of free channels in the UK via The Roku Channel, plus integrated apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and more. It recently added five new channels filled with British shows, as well as 22 other ad-supported channels that won't cost you a penny.
Roku founder Anthony Wood said, "Surpassing 100 million streaming households is a defining moment, not just for Roku, but for the future of television. We’re helping shape the entertainment landscape by making it easier to discover great content, more affordable to watch it, and more effective for advertisers and partners around the world to connect with audiences.
"We are deeply grateful to our viewers, teams, advertisers, and partners for helping us reach this milestone. And as the shift to streaming continues to accelerate, we’re more energised than ever to lead the evolution of television.”

If you're not familiar, Roku actually began as part of Netflix back in 2008. The company was originally dreamed up as an in-house streaming device before spinning off on its own. The streaming firm is constantly updating its offerings, too. It recently unveiled an all-new design across millions of TVs. A blockbuster free update was also announced — including new AI features and a massive update for sports fans.
And they've recently launched Howdy, a budget-friendly subscription service costing under $3 a month. It's a cheerfully-named new streaming service that's designed to take on more established players like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Paramount+, and Apple TV+, to name just a few. Although Roku hasn't confirmed a UK release date or price yet.
