Charlie Woods will be on course at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound to try and make it through to the Cognizant Classic.

Tiger Woods' son will attempt to qualify for his first PGA Tour event this week after entering the field at Lost Lake Golf Club in a pre-qualifying event for the Cognizant Classic.

Charlie Woods is looking to follow in the footsteps of his famous father and has stepped up his progress in recent years.

He helped his high school golf team win a state championship title last year and has competed in the PNC Championship with his father in four editions.

And the 15-year-old is now bidding to claim one of just four spaces available through qualifying for next week's Cognizant Classic.

The PGA Tour announced that Charlie will play in one of four pre-qualifying events with just the top five and ties advancing to Monday's qualifier.

The players who come through the pre-qualifying sites will then compete at Tesoro Club's Palmer Course.

The four qualifiers will then enter the field at the Cognizant Classic with players such as Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose in the field.

Tiger has been on the bag for his son at times over the past year and they were back at the PNC Championship together a few months ago.

Charlie stunned spectators on the par-four 13th hole when he unleashed a huge 321-yard drive that rolled off the back of the green.

Speaking at the event, Tiger admitted his son has already surpassed what he could do at a similar age.

"I sort of didn't have the speed that he has at that age, but also, I didn't have the equipment, either," said Tiger.

"The equipment is so different. We were just transitioning out of persimmon, so it's a different era, but also, the different golf ball, too.

"We were able to do so much more with the golf ball.

"I would hit different shots and do more things with the golf ball because it just moved a lot more."

The 15-time major champion is enjoying watching his son's progress in the game, but is not putting any expectations on his shoulders.

"He's still growing," he added. "You can see how much he's grown from last year.

"It's amazing how much he has grown, has changed, and it's a moving target with him, right.

"He's grown somewhere near four inches this year, so his swing has changed, it's evolved, clubs have evolved.

"And we kept trying to adjust things, and it's been a lot of fun.

"But it's also challenging for him because each and every couple weeks, things change. He's growing so fast."
