Kate has been absent from public duties since undergoing abdominal surgery

GB News host Bev Turner has defended Princess Kate after a new photo released on Mother's Day sparked widespread speculation about the royal's wellbeing.

The Princess of Wales released a new photo taken by Prince William to mark Mother's Day, posing with their three children Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte.

However the photo failed to quash speculation about the Princess's health after eagle-eyed royal fans spotted editing mistakes within the image.

Taking to social media, Princess Kate confirmed that she was the one who had edited the photo, and apologised for any "confusion" caused by the mistakes.

Kate wrote: "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused."

Many GB News viewers contacted Britain's Newsroom hosts Andrew Pierce and Bev Turner in support of the Princess following the controversy.

Viewer Tracy said: "It was Mother's Day, it was a photo of a mother and her children. Why would she put up a recent photo when she isn't at her best?"

Bev agreed with Tracy but added that the Palace has since confirmed that the photo was taken last week, after the Princess had her abdominal procedure.

Bev disputed the claim, adding: "I completely sympathise. If you aren't feeling at your best, you wouldn't want to be photographed. Tell us this is a photograph and let us know what it was."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Bev continued: "If it was autumn 2023, we would absolutely understand, and that would have been consistent with their message which was you will not see the Princess of Wales until after Easter.

"They succumbed to that public pressure to see her, which is effectively what has got them into this mess in the first place."

Co-host Andrew agreed with Bev's remarks, arguing it is because of "all the lurid stuff on the internet" and "lots of people are reading into it now".

GB News viewer Jeff sent in his thoughts on the royal photo controversy and defended the Princess of Wales, fuming: "I think we should all get off the Princess's back. She's a credit to our country."

Bev supported Jeff's view and further praised the Princess, stating she is "absolutely the best thing they've got".

She told GB News viewers: "They do need to protect her for all of our sakes. Because without her, I don't know what the Royal Family would look like. I genuinely don't know how much longer it would have left. And we need them, it's our national identity."

Andrew replied: "We do need them, because what's the alternative? Boring, bland, grey, boring President. Imagine President Blair.

"Theresa May's standing down at the next election, imagine President May. Can you imagine anything worse?"
