King Charles encouraged his son, Prince William, to look after his wife and put his family before royal duties, a royal author has claimed.
Ingrid Seward has claimed that the King felt William should enjoy his time with his family before he takes on the role as King.
Seward is releasing a new book called My Mother and I about the relationship between the late Queen and her son, King Charles.
She revealed: “I remember Charles said that he was determined that William should enjoy his family before he took on too much royal work.

“He feels that’s the least William should have – he’s got to be able to enjoy his family before he’s thrown into this role.”
Speaking to the Telegraph, Seward adds: “I think Charles said to William: ‘Look after your wife, first and foremost. She’s very important to you’.”
Prince Harry has previously described bad parenting habits as a “genetic pain” passed down through the Royal Family.
The Duke of Sussex once said: “When it comes to parenting, if I've experienced some form of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my father or my parents had suffered.”Prince Harry accused the King of passing on "genetic pain" to his children

Seward reveals: “Camilla wanted to be at her husband’s bedside when he underwent his prostate procedure because she’s a real person. That’s rubbed off on the King.
“I think it’s acknowledged that the Royal family haven’t always handled these matters that well in the past.”
Over the past month, the Prince of Wales has been prioritising his wife’s health and looking after their three young children.

This week the Prince of Wales attended a charity event in London where he shared a rare insight into support for Princess Kate and King Charles.
At the London Air Ambulance Gala in central London, he said: “I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all.”
