Sonja McLaughlan also claimed Prince William could have also been replaced by an actor

A BBC reporter has said that the woman photographed and seen in a video with Prince William is “clearly not” Princess Kate.

Sonja McLaughlan, a British sports broadcaster, has claimed that it is “disturbing” for newspapers to be reporting the woman in the video is Kate.

It has been widely reported that Princess Kate was spotted in a shop in Windsor alongside her husband, Prince William over the weekend.

A video released by The Sun showed Kate holding a shopping bag coming out of a farm shop on Saturday.

But McLaughlan disputed this and suggested that the woman in the video is a “lookalike,” spurring on conspiracy theories online about Kate’s whereabouts.

The sports presenter also claimed that Prince William could have also been replaced by an actor.

Regarding a video comparing past pictures of the princess to her recent appearance she wrote: “It’s so obviously not Kate.

“Some newspapers are reporting it as fact. But it’s not her. No conspiracy theorist but all very odd.”

McLaughlan added to her post on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Disturbing that newspapers like @thetimes are reporting this as fact.

“Headline ‘Kate seen in public for the first time’ when it’s clearly not her. As someone has said. Could be a couple of lookalikes making mischief.”

There have been weeks of speculation surrounding the Princess of Wales’s health growing across social media and many conspiracy theories have been made up about where Kate is.

The rumours continued after the princess released a Mother’s Day picture which she admitted to editing herself after international picture agencies issued a “kill notice” around it.

Princess Kate has been recovering from an abdominal operation she underwent in January.

At the time of her operation Kensington Palace was clear that the princess would not be returning to any public duties until “after Easter.”

The palace was forced to reiterate this timeline in a statement last month stating: “We were very clear from the outset that the Princess of Wales was out until after Easter and Kensington Palace would only be providing updates when something was significant.”

There have been no further details about Princess Kate’s operation, but it was confirmed to be non-cancerous.

The conspiracy theories about Kate have been denounced by some who have offered support for the Prince and Princess of Wales’s family.

Kevin Pietersen, a former England cricket star, has urged the “cruel” trolls to “leave her and her beautiful family alone.”

The cricket player lives with his wife Jessica Taylor near Windsor and said that he sees the royal couple “most days.”

Pietersen posted on X: “The conspiracy theories around Kate are absolutely absurd.

"We see W&K [William and Kate] most days and in the last couple days too!”
