The Princess of Wales is expected to return to public duties within the coming weeks

Princess Kate is on the brink of a "soft return" as Kensington Palace is drawing up plans for her first public appearance.

The Princess of Wales has not undertaken any royal duties this year with her last engagement coming in December 2023.


Princess Kate underwent abdominal surgery in January 2024 and has been recovering over the last two months following the significant operation.

Kensington Palace indicated that Kate would not return to public duties until Easter during their statement confirming the surgery.

As Easter approaches, the Palace is now planning a "soft return" for the Princess of Wales.

According to The Times, royal aides believe Princess Kate could join the Royal Family at the annual Easter Matins service at St George’s Chapel on Easter Sunday.

This public appearance would act as a "soft return" for Kate before she took a further few weeks break, according to the publication.

The Royal Family is set to take a three-week break for the Easter holidays from March 22.

As Easter approaches, the Palace is now planning a "soft return" for the Princess of Wales.

Kate's children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis return to school on April 17.

A royal insider said that Kate's return was "something which has focused minds right from the beginning".

While a Palace source said there had been no confirmation either way regarding the Princess of Wales's potential public appearance.

It comes as two former aides have been contacted by the team tasked with organising Kate's return to royal duties for advice, according to the Mirror.

"They all know that the world will be watching after weeks of heightened speculation and often outlandish commentary on social media."
