Government support for small business criticised as a 'postcode lottery'

Small business owner Alice Bellamy from campaign group Excluded UK says support for the self-employed during the pandemic "has not been fair and equal in comparison to employed people that got furlough."

The beauty therapist who has been in business for 27 years claims Excluded UK are aware of 24 members who have committed suicide “due to seeing no way out” due to a lack of support.

Criticising the Government’s approach she likened it to a “postcode lottery” and told GB News “it really should not be that hard to find a way [to help]…there just seem to be an unwillingness to find a way.”

She went on to accuse the government’s financial support system during the pandemic as being designed “by people who do not understand the self-employed and small businesses.”

ExcludedUK is a grassroots organisation, established in May 2020 in response to the financial challenges faced by individuals and businesses entirely or largely excluded from government Covid-19 financial support.
