French authorities have made hundreds of arrests as unrest continues to grip the nation

An angry father was spotted dragging a young boy who appeared to be his son away from riots before speeding off home.

The situation in France has reached boiling point after a teenager, identified as Nahel M, was shot in the chest at point-blank range on Tuesday morning.

Social media users have praised the dad for his courageous actions with some even recommending he be awarded France's highest civilian and military merit, the Legion of Honour.

French authorities made hundreds of arrests on the fifth night of unrest as France continues to face “violent” and “unpredictable” chaos following the fatal shooting of the 17-year-old.

Nahel M was killed after allegedly refusing to comply with a vehicle stop-check.

Footage from the shooting appeared to contradict claims initially made by officers which suggested the driver attempted to run them over.

As rioters light fires and launch fireworks at police, officers deployed stun grenades, tear gas and water cannons in an attempt to control the chaos.

But despite the dangers, one dad drove into the warzone to reportedly save his son.

One clip appears to show two people walking across a zebra crossing, but as the camera zooms in it is clear that it shows a young boy being pulled by the ear across a pedestrian walkway.

A second video shows the man throwing the boy into the boot of the car as he is heard shouting while they drive away.

The footage has since gone viral, with many applauding the man for taking decisive action to protect the boy.

One wrote on Twitter: "Phew there are still responsible parents! Congratulations to this gentleman."

Another added: "If every daron [parent] was like that, it would quickly be settled, not everyone would benefit from the same education."

The Foreign Office updated its advice for British tourists crossing the Channel to account for rioting and other acts of violence.

According to the advice, holiday makers should: “You should monitor the media, avoid areas where riots are taking place, check the latest advice with operators when travelling and follow the advice of the authorities.”
