Abdul Shakoor Ezedi is still on the run after allegedly throwing an alkaline substance at a mother and two daughters

Former Met Police Detective Kevin Hurley has blasted Abdul Shakoor Ezedi as a "nasty piece of work" after a 31-year-old woman and her two daughters, who were known to Ezedi, were attacked with a corrosive alkaline substance.

The 35-year-old refugee suspected of carrying out Clapham's chemical attack is still on the run and today it has been revealed that he was granted asylum in the UK.

Speaking to GB News Hurley said: "My real concern is asylum seekers. This guy was convicted in 2018 of a serious sexual offence, indecent exposure, and he was still granted asylum.

"For anyone with that kind of conviction, the police should look very closely at whether or not they're going to give asylum.

He added: "They need to change the regulations on why they refuse asylum. Then he wouldn't even be in the country."

Speaking about how the police are handling the manhunt he said: "The approach that the Police are taking now, is to publish the picture.

"That's unusual because when someone's a suspect they will not usually publish a picture because it could create evidential problems in identifying them in a court proceeding.

"They view this as such a serious attack, they've decided to publish it. The public are the ones who are most likely to see this guy when he's either moving on public transport, in the shops, or going to the hospital, so they're relying on the public.

"The people have to be the big helper on this, it has to be the public. So the appeal is, if anyone sees anyone like him, to immediately dial 999.

"We should all be concerned about this person. Anyone prepared to throw a corrosive fluid at a woman and child and throw the child to the floor is an extremely dangerous, nasty piece of work if not a psychopath. So he is a concern.

"And if he's seen, one would hope that any of us plays our part, immediately dials 999 and gets him arrested.

"Because the sooner that person is taken off the street, put before the courts and ideally convicted, and then booted out of the country, the better for all of us."

The convicted sex offender, who arrived illegally in the UK in the back of a lorry in 2016, was twice denied asylum.

However, GB News understands the Afghan's third asylum claim was approved after a priest provided a reference following his conversion.

Police released an image of the 35-year-old taken an hour after the attack on the other side of London with his face visibly disfigured.

Superintendent Gabriel Cameron said in a statement: "The image is taken from the Tesco store, where Ezedi is believed to have purchased a bottle of water. He left the shop and turned right.

"The image shows Ezedi with what appears to be significant injuries to the right side of his face. This makes him distinctive. If you see Ezedi, call 999 immediately. He should NOT be approached."
