The Duchess of Gloucester greeted Carole Middleton at Wimbledon today, marking a rare interaction for the duo.

The gathering of high-profile figures reflected the tournament's continued ability to attract royalty, sporting icons and celebrities as it progressed through its second week.

Carole and Michael Middleton made a rare public appearance at Wimbledon, taking their seats in the prestigious Royal Box without their daughter, the Princess of Wales. The couple attended the All England Lawn Tennis Club as the tournament entered its second week.

The Duchess of Gloucester, 79, warmly welcomed Carole with a supportive hug as they met in the Royal Box.

The gesture highlighted the close relationship between the senior royal and Princess Kate's mother.

Carole and Michael's presence marked one of the few times Kate's parents have been seen publicly in recent months. Michael's last public appearance was at his daughter's Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey in December, whilst Carole was recently spotted at Royal Ascot alongside her daughter-in-law Alizee.

The Middletons typically maintain a low profile despite their daughter's royal status.

For the occasion, Carole chose an elegant Beulah London dress paired with Emmy London sandals, completing her look with an Osprey handbag. Michael opted for a light-coloured suit, perfectly suited to London's warm weather.

The couple's appearance at the tennis championships comes as they continue to support their daughter whilst maintaining their characteristically private approach to public life.

The Royal Box hosted an impressive array of VIPs alongside the Middletons.

King Frederik of Denmark was amongst the distinguished guests, along with tennis legend Roger Federer and his wife Mirka.

The Middletons appeared comfortable amongst the notable company, enjoying the tennis from their prime seats at the All England Lawn Tennis Club on this warm July afternoon.

The Princess of Wales serves as royal patron of the AELTC and typically attends Wimbledon annually.

She has previously attended with her parents and once shared an amusing anecdote about her father during the 2017 documentary Our Wimbledon.

"My father is not going to appreciate this, but we were walking past Tim Henman and we had just seen [Pete] Sampras play," Kate recalled. "My dad said very coolly, 'Hi Pete!' I was mortified!"

Kate has spoken fondly of how Wimbledon inspired her love of tennis from childhood, describing it as "such a quintessential part of the English summer".
