The supermarkets are having to cancel orders today due to a "software error"

GB News understands that Tesco has now resolved the issue.

Tesco has had to cancel a number of its online orders after a "technical issue".

The supermarket has said the issue has impacted a proportion of orders that were due for delivery today, Saturday, March 16.


It comes after Sainsbury’s said it was also experiencing technical problems, which had left it unable to fulfil the “vast majority” of its online grocery deliveries.

Tesco said that the it was only impacting a small proportion of orders. Argos has said it is also experiences issues. Asda and Waitrose are not currently experiencing issues.

Shoppers told GB News that they have been experiencing problems with their online orders.

Yvette said: "What about those people who cannot afford to pay again, some of these supermarkets take three to five days to offer their refunds."

However, not everyone was experiencing difficulties with their deliveries. Susan, who lives in the Welsh countryside, said that her delivery, that was booked for between 10 and 11 had arrived

A Tesco spokesperson said: "We are working to fix a technical issue which has meant we have had to cancel some online orders that were due for delivery today. We’re sorry for the inconvenience."

A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "Due to an error with an overnight software update, we are experiencing issues with contactless payments and will not be able to deliver the vast majority of today's Groceries Online orders. Our stores are open as usual, accepting chip and pin and cash payments."

Yvonne, 56, from the Reading area, said: "The main issue I have with this is the poor communication from Sainsbury's to its customers. It was obvious something was wrong at 7am as that's when they send the receipts normally.

"Couldn't get through to anyone about my 8 to 9 delivery. No statement until about 8.30, only seemed to be on social media which not all customers will have.

"Should have been an email or text to customers which would have helped those like myself expecting an early morning delivery. Much to improve on with their communications."

Only a small proportion of Tesco orders due for delivery on Saturday were impacted, it is understood.

Tesco customers received an email if their order was disrupted, and if it was cancelled they were not charged.

In-store shopping and placing orders on the app and website are not believed to have been affected.

GB News understands that Tesco has now resolved the issue.
