Wrinkles are part and parcel of ageing, but their progression can be quicker in individuals who neglect their diet.
This is because healthy foods boost the body’s natural defences against collagen breakdown. The key lies in adding antioxidants and vitamin A.
Doctor Joel Kopelman, a facial surgeon on Park Avenue in New York City, is frequently asked about holistic approaches to anti-ageing.
He told GB News: “I often tell my patients that eggs, beef liver, and fish offer significant anti-ageing benefits due to their nutrient profiles.
Eggs offer significant anti-ageing benefits
PEXELS“Eggs are an excellent source of high-quality protein, essential for skin repair and regeneration. They also contain biotin, which supports healthy skin, hair and nails.”
According to Healthshots, just an egg a day can help maintain skin elasticity and keep hair strong.
“Beef liver is one of the most nutrient-dense foods available, packed with vitamins A, B12 and copper, all of which are crucial for maintaining skin health, promoting collagen production and reducing age-related damage,” added Doctor Kopelman.
Fish packed with essential fatty acids can also ward off wrinkles by keeping the skin supple and hydrated.
“Fish, especially fish like salmon, mackerel and sardines, are rich in omega-3 fatty acids,” noted Dr Kopelman.
“These health fats help maintain the skin’s lipid barrier, keeping it hydrated and reducing inflammation, which can slow down the ageing process and improve skin elasticity."
It comes as surgeon Doctor Neera recently disclosed in a TikTok clip that almonds could combat wrinkles.
“I tell my patients that eating three handfuls of almonds per day is a natural way to treat wrinkles. Eating almonds may modestly, but not drastically, improve wrinkles, but more research is needed," the expert shared.
“For best results, wear daily sunscreen, use an antioxidant serum like vitamin C and incorporate retinoids into your routine.”
“A 24-week clinical study showed that women who consumed about 400 calories of almonds per day (roughly three handfuls) had significant results in facial wrinkles fine lines and hyperpigmentation.”
It's important to note that while protein-rich foods support collagen synthesis, other habits like drinking alcohol and smoking break down collagen.

Beef liver can protect against the appearance of wrinkles
GETTYJennifer Myers, a 41-year-old skincare enthusiast, added sardines and beef liver to her diet several years ago because they have unique nutritional profiles.
The smaller, oily fish at the bottom of the food chain have long been known as some of the best superfoods for hair and health, as have nutrient-dense products like beef liver, she explained.
She added: “All the foods I consume in total contribute to my overall health, but I really wanted to highlight the two key nutrients I’ve been increasingly focused on supplying my body with.
“In the past six months, have made a major noticeable difference in the condition of my hair, skin and nails (I can both feel and see the difference)."
