Asda shoppers have been warned of food that is "unsafe to eat"

A food recall has been shared for shellfish sold at Asda as it has been labelled incorrectly.

Customers who have bought the product should not eat it and, instead, return it to stores for a refund.

The Food Standards Agency warned: "Asda is recalling Asda Succulent Cooked & Peeled King Prawns because of a labelling error which shows an incorrect use-by date, making them unsafe to eat."

Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in Asda stores with more information about the warning and what customers should do if they've bought the product.

Asda added: "The product has been incorrectly coded with the use by 21 December. The correct use by date is the 21 April. The product should not be consumed past this date.

"If you have purchased Asda Succulent Cooked & Peeled King Prawns with Use By Date of 21 December, Batch Number L66000 please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt.

"We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you would like any further information, please contact: Asda Customer Relations – 0800 952 0101."

The warning follows food recalls issued by other supermarkets in recent days amid food safety concerns.

Co-op has urged shoppers to dispose of meat products sold in stores that could cause wheezing and a tight chest.

The Co-op 20* Piece Picnic Platter contained soya that is not mentioned on the label, which could cause serious health issues for anyone with an allergy or intolerance.
