Shoppers have been warned of food sold in Co-op stores

Co-op has urged customers to check for affected batches of one of its British pork picnic platters.

This is because it contains sulphites not listed on the ingredient label, which could potentially cause a health risk.

A Co-op statement said: "Reason for recall: Allergen mislabel. The product contains sulphites which is not stated on the pack.

"For a refund or replacement (subject to availability) please visit your local store. If purchased online, you can receive a refund by calling 0330 041 7737.

"You can contact our Customer Careline on 0800 0686 727. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The convenience store added customers who find they have the affected batches should "dispose of the product".

The FSA added customers can find out more information in stores. It added: "The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

"These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."

An allergy to sulphites is rare but it can cause allergy-like symptoms in those with asthma or allergic rhinitis, according to Allergy UK.

The most common reaction for anyone with an allergy or intolerance is wheezing, a tight chest and a cough.
