Britons looking to relocate on a budget might want to consider the beautiful and bustling Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Spain offers a laid-back lifestyle, delicious cuisine, historic cities, and beautiful beaches - not to mention it's relatively close to the UK.

For these reasons, and many more, Britons flock in their masses to the gorgeous European country every year. Spain makes a great holiday destination as well as a popular choice for expats.

And it's entirely possible to relocate to Spain on a budget. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a top choice, according to the travel blog Wander Onwards, which comprised a list of the cheapest places to live in Spain.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of Tenerife, the largest of Spain's Canary Islands.

"This coastal port city is full of amazing bars, restaurants and beaches," the blog said.

"Despite being an island city, this bustling metropolis is surprisingly affordable."

The blog claimed that you can rent a one-bed apartment for an average of $700 (around £552) a month. According to the latest data by Rent London Flat, published in October 2023, the average monthly flats to rent in London is between £1,500 to £1,600.

Despite cheaper rent, Britons might find that they're spending a lot of money eating out and going for drinks, as Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a "tourist hotspot".

However, more "budget-conscious" expats will be able to seek out cheaper deals, especially once they've gotten to know the area well.

For those who want to move to Spain, Santa Cruz de Tenerife has plenty to offer. Check out the gorgeous garden Palmetum Santa Cruz Jardín Botanico, the incredible beach Playa de las Teresitas, the grand landmark Auditorio de Tenerife, and the bustling market Mercado Municipal Nuestra Senora de Africa.
